Our Impact
Research Translation
We strive to create impact in everything we do: whether it is helping bring new products and devices to market, instigating new research projects, translating them from fundamental to applied research, or exchanging knowledge with experts of Māori and Pasifika descent.
Commercialisation
We actively assist our investigators to prototype their ideas and commercialise them as they foster new industry start-ups. Our cohort of experienced researchers support each other with help and advice to tackle new challenges outside the strict scope of their study.
Students and Industry
We produce great graduates - providing multiple opportunities to enhance our investigators’ academic experience, through international travel opportunities, scholarships and the chance to present at conferences. They’re also invited to help solve industry problems and work alongside businesses.
Community Engagement
One of our most important areas of impact is encouraging New Zealand’s children on a science education pathway. We bring photonic and quantum technology to life, making it exciting for young people and communities.
The Dodd-Walls Centre research focus is photonics, the generation, transmission, and manipulation of light, and the study of matter and energy at the quantum level.
